DERBY PUBS

SEVEN STARS

Location:  On King Street, facing St Helen's House.

Historical Information:  One of Derby's best known pubs, the original building dates from 1680, but with an earlier foundation. The exact date that it started to operate as a pub is uncertain as is the date when it became known as the Seven Stars. It remains little altered to this day, although there are concerns as to its future due to new road schemes.

Curiosities:  When the old porcelain works used to stand nearby, customers were supplied with china tankards instead of glasses to drink the beer. Following the closure of the works in 1935, there are no tankards left today, many were taken as souvenirs, others were broken.
